The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the Trinamool Congress of ordering the murder. The Trinamool, on the other hand, has denied the allegations and demanded a CBI probe into the incident. About an hour after the incident, another BJP worker named Rohit Rai was also shot in Basirhat district. His condition is said to be critical. In the past two days, apart from Rath, two other BJP workers and a Trinamool Congress worker have been killed.
The BJP has also alleged that Rai was also killed by the TMC. He was shot in the stomach.
Violent incidents have started since the results of the West Bengal assembly elections were announced on May 4. Four people have been killed in the last 24 hours. Two of them are BJP workers and two are TMC workers. Meanwhile, a mob in Kolkata's New Market on Tuesday night demolished the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office using a bulldozer.
The unruly mob also damaged nearby shops. Similarly, police and central security forces patrolling in the Bamangheri area of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district were attacked on Tuesday night. Five security personnel were injured in the attack.
