The counting of votes for the assembly elections in four states and one union territory in India is underway. According to the initial counting, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead in the states of West Bengal and Assam. The BJP-led NDA alliance is also ahead in the union territory of Puducherry.

Indian media reported that actor Vijay Thalapathy's TVK is ahead in Tamil Nadu.

According to the latest counting, the BJP is leading in 159 seats and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 106 seats out of the 293 seats that have been elected, The Hindustan Times reported.

In the last election, TMC won 215 seats and BJP 77 seats. In Tamil Nadu, Vijay Thalapathy's TVK is leading in 116 seats. In Kerala, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is leading.
