The counting of votes for the assembly elections held in five different states of India has begun. According to the initial results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. According to Datanet, the TMC is leading in 127 seats and the BJP in 147 seats. As various exit polls have predicted a tight contest between the ruling TMC and the BJP, most of the attention is focused on the results in West Bengal. Similarly, in Assam, the BJP is far ahead of the Congress. According to the initial results, the BJP is leading in 66 seats and the Congress in 20 seats. In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin's DMK is leading in 87 seats, while the opposition AIADMK is leading in 37 seats. Actor Vijay Thalapathy's party TVK is leading in 21 seats. Similarly, in Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is leading in 50 seats and the ruling Left Democratic Front in 39 seats. Voting in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry took place on April 9. Similarly, voting in Tamil Nadu was completed on April 23. In West Bengal, voting was held in two phases on April 23 and 29.
