According to Indian media reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won a majority of seats in the assembly elections in the Indian states of West Bengal and Assam. Out of 294 constituencies in West Bengal, elections were held in two phases on April 23 and 29 in 293 constituencies. 

According to Hindustan Times, as the counting of votes is underway in West Bengal, the BJP has won 160 seats. It has taken a lead in 48 more seats. In this state, BJP had won 77 seats in 2021. 

The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which had won 215 seats at that time, has suffered a major setback in this election. According to the counting of votes so far, the TMC has won 53 seats. It has taken a lead in 26 more seats. 

Congress has won 2 seats while the Left Front has won 1 seat.  In Assam, the BJP has won 82 seats out of a total of 126 seats. Including the seats of other allies, the BJP-led NDA alliance has won 102 seats. The Congress-I has won 19 seats and is leading in 2 more seats. 

The NDA alliance has also won a majority in Puducherry. According to Indian media Dainik Bhaskar, the NDA alliance has won 17 seats out of a total of 30 seats. Here, the BJP had supported the All India NR Congress (AINRC) in most of the seats. The regional party AINRC has won 11 seats and is leading in 1 more seat. The BJP has won 4 seats, while other NDA components have won 2 seats. 

In Kerala, the Congress-I-led National Democratic Front (NDF) has won 100 seats out of 140 seats, according to Hindustan Times. The NDF is leading in 1 more seat. The Left Front has won 35 seats. 

In Tamil Nadu, Vijaya Thalapathy-led Tamilaga Vetri Kajangam (TVK) has won 88 seats and is leading in 20 seats. The two traditional forces, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), are in second and third place respectively. DMK has won 44 seats and is leading in 10 seats.  AIADMK, which has won 34 seats, is leading in 16 more seats.  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader MK Stalin has lost to TVK candidate VS Babu in the Kolathur constituency.
