Nine people died on the spot after an air conditioner (AC) exploded in a house in Delhi on Sunday morning. 

At least nine people, including a child and four women, died in the fire. Similarly, at least 20 people were injured, Delhi Police said.  The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

The explosion and fire broke out in the Vivek Vihar area of ​​east Delhi while the victims were sleeping. Police said the fire that broke out after the AC exploded spread to the entire house within minutes. 

14 teams including fire engines were deployed to douse the fire. Police said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the air conditioner explosion.
