Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif have met in Islamabad. A Pakistani official told Al Jazeera Arabic that the talks were a failure. Pakistan has been trying to broker a second round of Iran-US talks since the first round of direct talks in Islamabad on April 11 and 12 failed.

Earlier, Iran had rejected direct talks and said it could discuss its plans through Pakistan. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are leading the talks from the US.

Pakistan is trying to facilitate the talks amid mounting distrust between the two sides.

Both sides have been saying that the first round of direct talks failed to reach a conclusion due to minor disagreements.
