Eight children have died in a shooting in the US city of Shreveport, Louisiana. All were between the ages of 1 and 14. Police said it was the result of a domestic dispute. Police said a gunman opened fire on 10 people on Sunday and fled. He was later killed in a police pursuit. Police have not released details of the victims, but some of the children are said to be relatives of the gunman. The suspected shooter has been identified as Shamar Elkins, according to Lee Ann Evans, communications director for the mayor of Shreveport.

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arsenault called it a tragic incident and called it the city's most tragic incident to date.
