India has expressed concern over the shelling of its flagged ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
India has summoned the Iranian ambassador in Delhi to formally express its concern after its ships were forced to turn back from the Strait of Hormuz. Two Indian-flagged ships were forced to change course in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. According to BBC Persian, Tanker Tracker, a website that monitors tanker traffic, reported that there was also gunfire during the incident. The Iranian Navy forced two Indian ships to turn back in the western part of the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, the Iranian military (IRGC) had also ordered them to turn back from the Strait of Hormuz. The ships slowed down and made a U-turn after passing the Lark Island.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Indian foreign secretary summoned the Iranian ambassador to the ministry. During the meeting, he expressed concern over the shelling of the Indian ships.
He also reminded that India would give top priority to the safety of commercial ships and crews, recalling that Iran had previously assisted in the safe passage of ships coming to India.
On this occasion, the Iranian ambassador assured that he would convey India's grievances to his government and ensure the safe passage of ships coming to India.
