At least 20 people were killed and six others injured in a fire at a firecracker factory in Bhirudunagar, southern India, on Sunday. Local police chief N Srinath said at least 20 people had died in the fire. He said the cause of the fire was not yet known and rescuers were still working at the scene. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims on social media. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, in a post on Twitter, described the fire and deaths at the firecracker factory as "tragic".

More than 20 people were also killed in an explosion at a power plant in central India this week. Last month, 17 people died in a fire at a firecracker factory in western India.
