San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has issued an official letter announcing the recognition of April 14 as the Nepali New Year every year. The official letter states that the Nepali New Year has been recognized as a symbol of innovation, gratitude and cultural celebration. Immediately after the official recognition of the Nepali New Year was announced, the Nepali Consulate General in San Francisco has expressed gratitude.
The Nepali Consulate General in the US expressed gratitude through its Facebook page, stating that it is grateful for the respect shown by San Francisco, Santa Clara, Raymond and Hercules to the Nepali community. The declaration includes Bisket Jatra, Traditional activities like the New Year festival are claimed to strengthen unity, happiness, and cultural identity among communities. The announcement also praised the contributions made by Nepalis living in the San Francisco Bay Area to various cultural fields.
Similarly, the small cities of Santa Clara, Richmond, and Hercules in the San Francisco area have also officially recognized April 14 as Nepali New Year. There are about 30,000 Nepalis living in Santa Clara, Richmond, and Hercules, including San Francisco. After recognizing April 14 as Nepali New Year, the Nepali flag was hoisted in the city of Richmond. The city of Richmond has also announced that it will hoist the Nepali flag every year on April 14.
Along with California, Nepali parades are also organized every year in Texas, New York, Maryland, Boston, and Virginia, states where Nepalis live.
