US President Donald Trump has said he is confident that the Strait of Hormuz will open. He made the claim ahead of US-Iran talks in Islamabad today. The US is being represented in the talks by Vice President JD Vance.
Representatives from both Iran and the US are in Islamabad ready for the talks. Trump said he is confident that the Strait of Hormuz will open for commercial traffic. ‘I believe the Strait of Hormuz will open.’ I have heard that Iran is raising money there. If that is the case, it is wrong, it is better not to do it,’ he said.
Earlier, President Trump had signed a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran on Tuesday. He had claimed that the ceasefire was conditional on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Iran has not stopped tightening restrictions on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran claims that this was done in protest against Israel’s illegal attack on Lebanon.
President Trump claimed that there was no need for a backup plan to open the Strait of Hormuz. “There is no need for a backup plan.
Their military is defeated. They have very few missiles. They have very little production capacity. We have hit them hard,” he said.
He noted that the main goal of the deal with Tehran was to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. But he claimed that Iran would not be able to obtain nuclear weapons regardless of the deal.
