US President Donald Trump has agreed to postpone a planned deadly attack on Iran for two weeks. He had earlier threatened Iran, saying, "Tonight, civilization will be destroyed." Trump backed down after Pakistani mediation. Before the deadline, Trump announced his change of heart on his platform Truth Social. He also credited Pakistan for brokering the deal. Trump said he had stopped the plan after talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. He said he had agreed after Iran was ready to open the Strait of Hormuz. “Based on my conversations with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, I have agreed to suspend the attack and military action against Iran for two weeks,” Trump said in a statement. “They called for the cessation of the destructive force being sent to Iran tonight, and for the Islamic Republic of Iran to agree to fully, immediately, and safely open the Strait of Hormuz.” Shortly after Trump’s statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also confirmed the temporary agreement. “If the attack on Iran is stopped, our powerful armed forces will also cease their defensive operations,” Araghchi wrote. “For the next two weeks, movement through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible in coordination with the Iranian military.” Trump also shared Araghchi’s statement on his Truth Social. In the statement, Araghchi expressed “gratitude and appreciation” for the tireless efforts of Pakistan and its leadership to end the regional war. Similarly, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has mentioned that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Iran and the United States. He also said that this agreement will also apply to 'Lebanon and other areas' and has come into effect immediately. ‘I warmly welcome this wise step, express my deep gratitude to the leadership of both countries,’ Sharif said, ‘I invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, for further talks to finally resolve all disputes.’

With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

I warmly welcome the…
