Over 600,000 passengers have returned to India from the West Asia region in view of the security situation as the US-Israeli-Iran conflict enters its second month, a top Indian government official said on Thursday.
He also informed about the Indian nationals injured in the UAE and said that the safety and welfare of the Indian community in the region is the top priority of the government.
Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs Asim R Mahajan gave this information during an inter-ministerial reporting session in the capital.
Mahajan said, 'Around 624,000 passengers have travelled to India from this region since February 28. Airlines are operating limited special flights between the UAE and India.'

According to him, flights are being operated from various airports in Saudi Arabia and Oman to various destinations in India.
Mahajan said, 'Qatar Airways has said that it expects to operate 8 to 10 flights to India today. The airspace of Kuwait and Bahrain is closed. Kuwait's Jazeera Airways and Bahrain's Gulf Air have been flying to various destinations in India from Saudi Arabia's Dammam airport. This has facilitated the travel of Indian citizens from Kuwait and Bahrain.'
Due to the closure of the airspace, flights have been made from Iran to India via Armenia and Azerbaijan. Similarly, he informed that the government is facilitating travel from Israel to Egypt and Jordan, from Iraq to Jordan and Saudi Arabia, from Kuwait and Bahrain to Saudi Arabia and from there to India.
Informing about the incident that took place in the UAE on Wednesday, Mahajan said, 'An Indian citizen was injured in the attack in Umm Al Quwain, UAE yesterday and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Our consulate is providing all possible assistance to the injured Indian citizens.'
An Indian national was injured when drone debris fell near an industrial establishment in the Umm Al Thawb area, according to Gulf News.
Mahajan, in his remarks, said the Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Gulf and West Asia region and ensuring the safety and rescue of the large Indian community in the region is the government's top priority.
