US President Donald Trump has hinted at the US withdrawal from the NATO alliance. The British newspaper The Telegraph asked Trump if he would reconsider US membership in NATO after the Iran war. In response, Trump said, "It's beyond reconsideration. I've never been impressed by NATO. I always knew they were paper tigers, and Putin knows that very well." Trump's demand that allies send warships to reopen the Strait of Hormuz was rejected by allies. The White House has since indicated that it no longer considers Europe a reliable defense partner. Iran has been blocking the Strait of Hormuz since the war began. The closure of the strait, through which about 20 percent of the world's oil flows, has led to a global shortage of oil and gas. He said that when the US helped Europe in the Ukraine war, its European partners did not help the US. "We always had problems there." Ukraine was not our problem. It was a test and we went for Europe. We were always there for them. They didn’t come for us,” Trump said.  Trump also complained that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had not helped him. Starmer had rejected Trump’s request to use British military bases in a war against Iran. However, British troops had landed for defensive purposes when Iran retaliated against British military infrastructure in the Middle East.

Trump said that Britain’s warships were no longer useful. “You don’t even have a navy. You’re very old and you only have useless warplanes.”

Commenting on Trump’s latest interview, Starmer said that NATO is the most effective military alliance in the world. However, he said that Britain will look after its own interests and will not participate in a war against Iran.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth, 'Countries like Britain should have the courage to go to the Strait of Hormuz and bring oil.  You need to start learning how to fight for yourself. America will not be there to help you.'
