In an interview with the Financial Times on Sunday, he said that the US could control Iran's oil indefinitely, just like Venezuela. But they are stupid. ’  Trump has been building up US forces in the Middle East. The Pentagon is in talks with the White House about deploying 10,000 trained troops to the Middle East with the aim of attacking Kharg Island. Kharg Island is Iran’s main oil export hub. Oil is brought here by pipeline from Iranian oil fields and processed and sent to the world market. 90 to 95 percent of Iran’s oil exports go to the world market through this island.

‘Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options,’ Trump told the Financial Times, ‘We may have to stay on Kharg Island for a while.’

He also claimed that the US could easily take over Kharg Island. ‘I don’t think Iran has any security. We could take it very easily,’ he said.

Citing the killing of Iran's then Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other senior officials in a US strike, he claimed that there had been a 'regime change' in Iran. He claimed that the people in power were very professional and that the US had also been in talks with them.

Earlier, Trump had also claimed that talks with Iran were in the final stages. Iran denied this.

Trump also repeated the claim that Khomeini's son and Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khomeini was dead or seriously injured. Iran denied this claim and said that the Supreme Leader was safe.
