Israel has claimed that Alireza Tengsiri, the commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy, has been killed. Israel alleges that he played a key role in bombing and obstructing the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have not commented on Tengsiri's death. "The Israeli Defense Forces have eliminated the IRGC navy commander who was directly involved in obstructing and bombing the Strait of Hormuz," Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said. Katz said that the role played by the Israeli military in opening the Strait of Hormuz was an important message for its American partners. Tengsiri had strongly opposed the joint Israeli-American attack on Iran since the war. He was active on social media throughout the war. He last posted on social media on Tuesday. The post states that ships moving through Hormuz must coordinate with Iranian maritime authorities.
