Russia has launched nearly 1,000 drone strikes on Ukraine in the past 24 hours, one of the deadliest attacks in the four years since the Russia-Ukraine war began.
The Ukrainian military said about 550 of those were launched in broad daylight. Such attacks are rare in war. The death toll from the attacks has not been made public. At least 40 people, including five children, have been injured in the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
At least two people were killed in Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine, local officials said. A National Guard soldier and his 15-year-old daughter died, Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiev said.
Four others, including a 6-year-old boy, were injured. In Vinnytsia, a 59-year-old man was killed and 11 others were wounded.
“This is one of the largest attacks in Ukraine during the day,” said Yuriy Ignat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force. At least 22 people were injured in Lviv.
