The blockage in the Strait of Hormuz has triggered an oil crisis. Similarly, prices have increased.
The price of Brent crude, which was trading at US$70-72 per barrel before the US-Israel-Iran war (2011-2012) has now reached over $100 per barrel. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has urged households, businesses and governments to save fuel during this time of fuel shortage. The IEA has suggested 10 ways to save fuel.
The IEA report suggests the following to reduce fuel use and household expenses:
1. Work from home as much as possible, as reducing daily travel will reduce fuel consumption.
2. Drive slowly on highways: (reduce your speed by at least 10 km/h), low speed will reduce fuel consumption in vehicles.
3 Use public transport: Reducing the use of private cars and increasing travel by bus and train will reduce the demand for oil.
4. Implementing an odd-even system in cities will help reduce fuel consumption. This can be done by driving on odd days and odd number plates on odd days.
5. Car sharing and efficient driving: High occupancy and eco-driving reduce fuel consumption. Give others a lift in your car.
6. Pay attention to vehicle servicing: Good driving, maintenance and load optimization reduce diesel consumption.
7. Do not use LPG in transportation: It is better to keep LPG gas safe for essential needs like cooking.
8. Avoid air travel as much as possible: Reducing air travel reduces jet fuel consumption. Therefore, avoid air travel except for essential work.
9. Electric stove: Electric stoves can be used to reduce dependence on LPG gas.
10. Work at full capacity in industry: The faster you work in an industrial house, the more productivity will increase. This will save time and fuel.
