White House officials told CNN that US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's attempts to hold talks.
Iranian officials have in recent days initiated diplomatic efforts through Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and other Trump administration figures, two senior officials told CNN on Monday.
They claimed that Iranian officials had been in contact with Witkoff. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied the claim. He said he had no contact with Witkoff.
"My last contact with Witkoff was before the US decided to end diplomacy with an illegal military strike on Iran. Any claim to the contrary is misleading," Araghchi wrote on social media on Monday.
Trump had previously said that while he was willing to talk to Iran, his offer was not good enough.
