US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran must surrender. He claimed that the country's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei may be dead.
"I heard he's not alive. If he is, he's got to do something smart for the country, and that's surrender," Trump said in an interview with NBC News.
He said he doubted Khamenei was alive. "I don't know if he's alive. Nobody's seen him yet," he said.
He said that Iran is not ready to negotiate, even though it wants to. "Iran wants to make a deal. But I don't want to because the terms are not good enough," Trump said.
Iran has been at war for the past 16 days. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike on the first day of the war. A few days later, the Iranian government elected his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the new supreme leader.
However, since his election, the supreme leader has not appeared in any public event. Just a few days ago, his message was read out on Iranian state television.
