Two foreign oil tankers have been attacked near the port of Al-Faw in southern Iraq.

Public footage shows the tankers bursting into flames shortly after they left the port of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. The tankers were carrying crude oil from Basra province. Iraqi officials said both ships were attacked by boats laden with explosives while they were in Iraqi waters near the port of Al-Faw.

Officials suspect the boats may have been sent from Iran. Iran has previously warned that it could target oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Thirty-eight crew members were rescued safely after the attacks, while one crew member was killed.

Some of the tanker crew members are still missing.
