US opposition Democratic lawmakers have expressed concern about the possibility of ground troops being deployed in Iran.

They accused the Trump administration of failing to clearly explain to the Senate the reasons for the war, its goals and the end date.

They also accused the Trump administration of releasing limited information about the war. Speaking to reporters after a briefing with members of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, Senator Richard Blumenthal expressed concern about the increased risk of the government sending US ground troops to Iran.

"The administration appears to be moving in the right direction to deploy U.S. troops to Iran to meet its potential objectives," Blumenthal told reporters. "Lawmakers want to know exactly what the cost of the war is, how long it will take, and the risks it poses to U.S. troops and personnel. The administration has not been clear about these things."

Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen expressed similar concerns, saying the administration has done more to raise questions than to provide clarity.

President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of deploying ground troops to Iran. But he has said the Navy and Air Force will end the Iran war, so there is no need to send ground troops. The Iran war is in its first day. Trump has previously said the war could be over in four weeks or less, but analysts say it could drag on.
