US President Donald Trump has announced that he will stop all trade with Spain.

Spain had previously condemned the US attack on Iran. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the attack on Iran was a violation of international law. Spain had also previously strongly condemned the attack on Venezuela. On Monday, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez said that the US would not allow the use of both the Rota naval station and the Morón air base in a war with Iran. The military bases are in Spain and are commanded by Spanish soldiers. But they are joint property of the US and Spain. In return, Trump announced that he would stop all trade with Spain. 'We will stop all trade with Spain. We don't want to do anything,' Trump said. 'Spain said we can't use their bases and that's fine," Trump told reporters. 'If we want to, we can use those bases, even if we don't have the sanctions. Nobody can stop us.' Both bases were used by US cargo and fighter jets during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Moron Air Base was used to refuel tankers during the 2011 NATO bombing of Libya. But more than a dozen US tankers left Rota and Moron on Monday after Spain announced the sanctions.

The standoff with Iran has exposed divisions among the US's European allies. Spain has said the US invasion is an unjustified and dangerous military intervention outside international law. Britain also said at the start of the invasion that it would not allow the US to use its military bases.

However, on Sunday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the US would be allowed to use a military base in Cyprus to defend against missiles fired by Iran.
