Spain, a member of the NATO alliance and the European Union, has decided not to allow the United States to use joint military infrastructure on its territory to attack Iran.

The naval station in Rota and the Moron air base are joint US-Spanish facilities on Spanish territory. They are commanded by Spanish soldiers. US President Donald Trump has threatened to end all trade relations with Spain if it does not allow them to use the facilities. He has criticized Spain as a terrible ally. However, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said his country remains anti-war. In a 10-minute televised address, Sanchez said the Spanish government will always reject war, citing the war in Ukraine, the war in Gaza and the Iraq war 20 years ago. "The question is not that we are with the ayatollah. No one is. The question is that we are for peace and international legitimacy," he said in a video message from the prime minister's office. He expressed solidarity with Middle Eastern countries that have been hit by Iranian aggression. Spain has long condemned Israel's attack on Gaza. It has called the attack an 'ethnic genocide'.  France had previously condemned the attack. However, after Iran attacked the UAE in the Middle East, it deployed Rafale aircraft to protect its military bases there.

Britain initially said it would not get involved in the war. However, after Iran attacked its military bases in Cyprus, it said it would allow the US to use those bases.

In response, Iran has warned European countries not to allow the US to use its military bases. Allowing the use of military bases in this way would be seen as support for the attackers, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said.

'This would be an act of war. Any such action against Iran would be considered cooperation with the attackers. It would be considered war against Iran,' Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said at a press conference on Wednesday. 'Defensive is synonymous with attack. It has no meaning. "If they want to deprive Iran of its ability and capacity to fight the invaders, there will be a retaliatory attack."

He warned that Iran would retaliate.
