More than 100 people are missing after a suspected submarine attacked an Iranian ship off the coast of Sri Lanka, media reports say.

 Dozens were injured in the incident.

Sri Lankan navy and defense ministry officials said on Wednesday that at least 101 people were missing. They also said 78 were injured. The attack took place off the coast of Sri Lanka.  According to news agency PTI, 32 people have been rescued from the sinking ship and have been admitted to hospital.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said rescue operations were underway with the deployment of navy and air force aircraft.

The Sri Lankan parliament has been informed about the Iris Dena ship, which was carrying 180 passengers, in trouble.
