Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez has condemned the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, saying the war is against UN treaties or international law.

Speaking to Euro Today, he said Iran's attacks on other countries in the Middle East were also unjust. He said the attacks were motivated by revenge and had caused problems for ordinary people.  'We condemn every human rights violation by the Iranian regime and we stand with the Iranian people. We want to protect them, we want to protect their freedom,' Albarez said.

Spain is the only European Union country to oppose the attack on Iran. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez had earlier condemned the attack on Saturday.

Sanchez's government has been a consistent critic of US President Donald Trump's interventionist foreign policy.  Spain has also been consistently critical of Israel's attack on Gaza.

'There will be no peace through violence. "But there will be no democracy or stability," Foreign Minister Albarez said on Monday, "so we really urge everyone to reduce tensions and return to the negotiating table."

Iran said on Monday that there would be no talks with the United States. Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga has claimed that Iran has the duty and legitimate right to avenge the assassination of his country's supreme leader.
