We are taking all possible measures to ensure the safety of UAE residents: UAE

What you should know

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has said it is using the world's most advanced air defense system to ensure the safety of its citizens and migrant workers. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 700,000 Nepalis are working in the UAE.

Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimi said that no effort will be spared to protect the country and to be fully prepared for it.

In an interview with CNN on Sunday, she said that the UAE is neutralizing Iran's missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries. She said, "We are sending a clear message to the UAE people that you are safe with a leadership that cares about you and will do everything possible to maintain your security."

According to her, the UAE is a safe place with strong infrastructure. She said that the leadership here is focused on the safety of not only local citizens but also foreign residents, tourists and visitors.

She said that the UAE's defense system is one of the best in the world. On the first day of Iran's attack on Saturday, more than 137 ballistic missiles and more than 200 drones were neutralized, she said.

She said that although many residents were frightened by the loud noise, the sounds were actually the sounds of missiles being intercepted. "Where there is damage, it is mainly the remains of the missiles that have been neutralized," she said.

Two people were killed and 10 injured in the Iranian attack in the UAE. Buildings around the Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, residential areas, the airport and part of Jebel Ali Port were damaged and set on fire.
