US President Donald Trump has announced a major military operation in Iran after Israel launched missile strikes on Iran. Iran's Revolutionary Guards have launched their first major wave of retaliatory missile and drone attacks on Israel.

Bahrain said a missile attack had targeted a US naval headquarters in its country, while a missile had been intercepted in Qatar. Explosions were reported in the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi. Multiple explosions were heard in the Iranian capital Tehran and in other parts of the country. There was no immediate official comment from the Iranian government, but state media said President Masoud Pezizian was safe.

Commercial flights across West Asia have been affected by the US and Israeli military strikes on Iran.

Israel said it had completely closed its airspace to civilian flights after the attacks. The Israel Airports Authority has urged the public to avoid the airport until further notice.

Some international airlines have announced flight suspensions.

Biz Air has suspended all flights to Israel, Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the UAE and Amman in Jordan until March 7 with immediate effect.

Lufthansa has suspended flights to Dubai, Tel Aviv, Beirut in Lebanon and Muscat in Oman on Saturday and Sunday.

KLM has canceled flights from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv.

Oman Air has suspended all flights to Baghdad, the Iraqi capital.

Russia has suspended all flights to Iran and Israel.

Kuwait has suspended all flights to Iran until further notice.

Iraq has closed its air service and canceled all incoming and outgoing flights.

Gulf countries Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE have suspended their air services.

Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines has canceled flights to various destinations. The airline said it has canceled flights to Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Oman, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Jordan. Qatar Airways said it has suspended all its flights after Qatari airspace was closed.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority has closed part of the country's airspace. 'Southern air routes will be closed for 12 hours from noon on Saturday,' the authority said in a statement.

India suspends all flights to the Middle East

India's two largest private airlines, IndiGo and Air India, have suspended flights to all destinations in the Middle East after Israel and the US attacked Iran. In view of the increasing number of attacks in parts of the Middle East, Air India has suspended all its flights to all destinations in the Middle East, Air India said in a statement on its social media handle X.

IndiGo also said it was temporarily suspending flights keeping in mind the safety of its customers and crew members.

Home to millions of Indian expatriates, New Delhi has historically balanced its relations with Israel.

The region is also a vital source of energy for the world's fastest-growing major economy.

The attack on Iran came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned home after a historic visit to Israel, where the two sides agreed to strengthen trade and defence ties.
