Iran has retaliated by attacking US military bases in the Gulf region in response to the attack on it.
Iran has attacked US military bases in five of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. There has been no attack in Oman. Oman had earlier initiated talks between Iran and the US. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had attacked all Israeli and US military bases in the Middle East. Iran claimed that it had inflicted heavy damage on Israeli and US military bases in the Middle East in the retaliatory attack. "A powerful Iranian missile destroyed them," Iran's paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said.
‘This operation will continue until the enemy is defeated,’ the IRGC said in a statement, adding that ‘the Iranian military’s attacks on all US assets in the Middle East will be legitimate.’
At least one person was killed in the attack in Abu Dhabi. The UAE’s state news agency reported that several missiles fired from Iran were intercepted.
Iran launched an attack near the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. Bahrain condemned the attack as an attack on its sovereignty and security.
Qatar and Kuwait said that missiles were fired into their airspace in the same area and that they were successfully intercepted.
