Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi said the next round of talks between the US and Iran will take place on Thursday.
"I am pleased to confirm that the US-Iran talks are now scheduled for Thursday in Geneva. Further efforts will be made to finalize the agreement," Albusaidi wrote on social media on Sunday. The announcement comes as the US is increasing its military presence in the Middle East. Hours before the Oman announcement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was ready to ensure that its nuclear program is limited to peaceful purposes. He said a full monitoring mechanism could be established to ease tensions. He said that Iran would be given easy access to international markets in return. "Prosperity is a sensitive part of our talks. The US team knows our position, and we know their position. We have already shared our concerns, and I think a solution can be found," Minister Araghchi said. US President Donald Trump has threatened military intervention if talks with Iran are not concluded within 10 days. The US has deployed a large number of aircraft, including the Abraham Lincoln battleship, to the Middle East. Similarly, the world's largest warship, the USS Gerald Ford, is approaching the Middle East.
