Bangladesh resumes tourist visas for Indians

Bangladesh has decided to fully resume tourist visa services for Indian citizens through its diplomatic missions in India from Monday.

A Bangladeshi foreign ministry official gave this information on Sunday. Earlier, the Bangladesh government had temporarily suspended tourist visa services from its diplomatic missions in India, citing security reasons. But the official said the service would now be expanded regularly, concluding that the overall situation had improved after the national elections held on February 12. He said the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and Bangladesh missions in cities like Guwahati, Agartala, Mumbai and Kolkata were continuing most visa services except tourist visas. “Tourist visas were generally suspended, although they were issued in urgent cases,” he said. He clarified that the service was limited and would now be resumed broadly from Monday, even though the suspension was not formally announced. On the eve of the elections, all Bangladeshi missions in India were instructed to suspend tourist visa services from January 15 to February 15.

Only essential visas were issued during that period. Apart from India, services were also temporarily suspended for countries like Nepal and Bhutan citing security reasons. After a review, the official informed that all types of visa services have now been fully restored.
