Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office officials said the man, who is believed to be in his 20s, was carrying a gun and a can of gasoline.
A man who forced his way into US President Donald Trump's Florida home has been shot and killed by Secret Service and Palm Beach County Law Enforcement officers.
The man entered the Mar-a-Lague home with a gun around 1:30 a.m. local time on Sunday.
Officials said President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were at the White House in Washington, D.C. at the time. Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office officials said the man, who was about 20 years old, was carrying a gun and a can of gasoline. He was shot by a detective.
Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Chief Rick Bradshaw said he had already gotten within 20 to 30 yards of the gate.
"When two detectives and an assistant saw them, they told him to drop his weapon. He dropped the can of gasoline on the ground. But he raised his gun and took up position," Bradshaw said. He was then shot. White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt praised the detectives. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the matter further.
