US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has reiterated his warning of withdrawal from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

“The 52-year-old organization that ensures energy security must return to its founding mission,” Wright said at the end of the IEA ministerial meeting in Paris. The IEA was created to coordinate solutions to major supply disruptions after the 1973 oil crisis. “The organization has adopted a climate agenda that includes a goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050,” Wright said. “The United States will use all the pressure we have to push the IEA away from this agenda in the next year or so,” Wright said. “If the IEA fails to focus on its mission of energy integrity, energy access and energy security, we will be a former member of the IEA,” he added.
