Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tariq Rahman is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister on Tuesday.

The BNP won more than two-thirds of the seats in the elections held last Thursday.

The swearing-in ceremony has been held at the South Plaza of the Bangladesh Parliament Building. The oath-taking ceremony of the MPs is scheduled to be held at 10 am and the oath-taking of the ministers, including the Prime Minister, at 4 pm, according to Bangladeshi media outlet The Daily Star. Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma will participate in the oath-taking ceremony from Nepal. He has left for Dhaka on Monday for that. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Monday that the visit of the Foreign Minister will further strengthen the  relations between Nepal and Bangladesh.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will participate from India, Indian media outlet The Hindu reported. Similarly, Planning and Development Minister Asan Ekwa will participate from Pakistan, Pakistani media outlet Dawn reported.

Representatives from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, and Brunei have been invited for the swearing-in ceremony.  In the 299-seat election held on Thursday, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party won 299 seats out of 297 seats. Including allies, the BNP-led coalition won a total of 212 seats.  The counting of votes has been stopped by a court order in two seats. The election was postponed due to the death of a candidate in one of the 300 direct seats. There are a total of 350 seats in the Bangladesh parliament. Of these, 50 seats are reserved for women. Representatives are elected proportionally based on the vote share of the parties directly.
