Epstein file: From Modi to Mustang King

What you should know

The release of documents related to notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has caused a stir around the world.

The files include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, British politician Peter Mandelson, Slovak National Security Advisor Miroslav Lajcak, former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Indian businessman Anil Ambani and the Mustangi King of Nepal.

The latest installment of the US Justice Department's latest batch of documents released on Friday contains more than three million pages. This is the largest number of files released since US President Donald Trump approved the release of the documents last year.

The public documents include the names of US President Donald Trump, British Prince Andrew Mountbatten, billionaires Bill Gates and Elon Musk, and former US President Bill Clinton. The people included in the file are not involved in crimes. However, the file shows how far the notorious criminal Epstein's network and contacts extend. Some of the people named in the file have responded that Epstein mentioned their names despite having no connection to them.

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, India

The documents released on Friday reveal conversations between Reliance Group billionaire chairman Anil Ambani, close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Epstein. Epstein was first convicted of sex crimes in 2008. He appears to have exchanged emails with Ambani this year after his conviction. The emails ranged from determining the number of US ambassadors to visit India to arranging meetings with top US officials for Modi. Anil Ambani is the brother of India's richest man Mukesh Ambani, who is close to Prime Minister Modi.

On March 16, 2017, two months after Trump was sworn in as US president, Ambani sent Epstein a message. In which it is written that ‘the leadership is trying to contact senior figures in Trump’s circle.’ In this email, Ambani sought Epstein’s opinion saying that a possible Trump-Modi meeting could be arranged ‘in May’. On March 29, Epstein wrote back to Ambani. In it, he said that he would also discuss Israel’s strategy. Two days later, Ambani’s email to Epstein mentioned that Modi would visit Israel in July.

On June 26, Modi met Trump in Washington. Shortly thereafter, on July 6, 2017, Modi visited Israel. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel.

That year, New Delhi became the largest buyer of Israeli weapons. It had bought weapons worth 715 million US dollars. The Modi administration has been soft on Israel despite the Israeli massacre in Gaza, a move condemned by the Palestinians. The defense partnership between the two countries continues to this day.

Ambani's Reliance Defense Limited also entered into a joint venture with the Israeli state defense group last year for a $10 billion deal over a decade.

In another public document, Epstein proposed a meeting between Modi and White House strategist Steve Bannon in 2019. Epstein sent the proposal to Modi through Ambani within hours of Modi winning the election by a landslide.

On May 19, 2019, Epstein also emailed Bannon about the matter. There, Epstein wrote, mentioning Ambani by name, "Modi is sending someone to meet me on Thursday." On May 23, Epstein's letter to Bannon also mentions the meeting with Ambani. Epstein's email mentions that they discussed the issue of Bannon and Modi meeting. Quoting Ambani, Epstein mentioned that India's main enemies are China and Pakistan and that Modi wanted to talk to Bannon about the problem related to China. However, it is not clear whether Ambani was authorized by the Indian government to talk about such issues. Parties including the main opposition Congress in India have now criticized Modi heavily on this issue. They have demanded that he make his views public, especially on close ties with Israel. The Indian government has denied this.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Indian politician

The Epstein files also include the name of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former diplomat Hardeep Singh Puri. The conversation between Puri and Epstein began in June 2014. Epstein wrote an email to Puri about arranging a visit to India for LinkedIn co-founder Reed Hoffman. In response, Puri, through Epstein, made a detailed proposal to Hoffman about investment opportunities in India. Public documents show that Puri met Epstein at least three times in Manhattan, New York. On behalf of the newly elected Modi government, he tried to get Hoffman to visit India by presenting economic plans. Puri said that his meeting focused on interaction and investment.

Kevin Rudd, former Australian Prime Minister

Kevin Rudd, an Australian politician who served as the country's Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010 and again for a few months in 2013, is also mentioned in the Epstein file. The new files have revealed that he met with James Rudd in New York in June 2014. However, currently, the Australian  Rudd, who is serving as ambassador, has claimed that he did not meet Epstein. He said he had no friendship with Epstein.

Peter Mandelson, British politician

Former British minister and member of the House of Lords Peter Mandelson's name also appeared in previously released Epstein-related files. It was the reason he was fired as the British ambassador to the US last year. He announced that he had resigned from the Labour Party after new documents further confirmed his relationship with Epstein. The new documents show his financial dealings with Epstein. Epstein paid Mandelson $75,000 in three separate transactions in 2003 and 2004. The documents show.

Prince Andrew Mountbatten has already been implicated in the Epstein file in Britain. He renounced his royal title after being accused of abusing underage girls.

Norway's Princess Mette-Marit

Norway's Princess Mette-Marit's name is mentioned nearly 1,000 times in the Epstein file. Epstein has exchanged numerous emails with Crown Prince Haakon's wife Marit. Mette-Marit has praised Epstein for being a kind-hearted person. She has also addressed him as a sweetheart. She thanked Epstein for sending her flowers when she was feeling unwell. In 2012, Mette-Marit said Epstein was very attractive.

Princess Marit's son Marius Borg Hoibi (who is the son of her ex-husband) is currently facing 38 criminal charges, including rape, assault and drug offences. The Epstein files controversy has put Marit in even more trouble.

Miroslav Lajcak, Slovakia's national security adviser

A new series of Epstein files has forced Slovakia's national security adviser Miroslav Lajcak to resign. Lajcak, who was foreign minister, had an email conversation with Epstein in 2018 about various women. Various photos of Lajcak have also been made public along with the emails. On Sunday, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said Lajcak's resignation had been accepted.

The Mustang King and the Great Earthquake

The newly released files also mention the Mustang King of Nepal. American billionaire Thomas Pritzker, former chairman of the Hyatt hotel chain, claimed in an email to Epstein that the King of Mustang was his friend. The document does not specify which King of Mustang was involved.

Another document mentions the purchase of a Tibetan carpet made in Nepal for about $51,000. Epstein himself and his colleagues have repeatedly mentioned Nepali carpets in email conversations. These emails mention that Tenzing Nepali of Stark Carpet in New York met Epstein and tried to sell him carpets. Epstein's interest in products including hand-woven carpets in Nepal can be understood from the context mentioned in several emails.

Similarly, after the earthquake in Nepal, Czech model Petra Nemcova wrote a letter to Epstein. She appealed to him through the email to help young children in Nepal who have lost their homes, schools, and relatives. However, there is no evidence that Epstein helped. Through her organization Happy Hearts Fund, Nemkava had repaired schools and provided other assistance in Nuwakot, Sindhuli, Sindhupalchowk and other districts. This volunteer organization is still working in the social sector in Nepal as All Hands and Hearts.

In another email, William Speer of an organization called Second Response thanked Epstein for the donation of 25,000 US dollars and said that the donation would be spent on helping Nepal. An email sent to Epstein by the Israeli military newsletter also mentions the context of Nepal. It mentions that he reached Nepal after the earthquake and treated about 1,500 people. Records show that Epstein regularly donated to the Israeli Defense Force, also known as the IDF, during his time.

It seems that various people have also sought help from Epstein with reference to Nepal. A man has asked Epstein for a job, claiming he donated $10,000 to the Nepal Medical Association.

What is the Epstein File?

A collection of legal documents, flight records, meeting notes and sealed records related to businessman and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is called the 'Epstein File'. The US Justice Department is releasing these files in installments .  Studying these files helps to understand the extent of Epstein's connections and how he abused girls.

Epstein was first arrested in 2008 on federal charges of sex trafficking minors.  But this time he was sentenced to only 18 months in prison. He used political influence

to get out of prison after serving 13 months.  He then continued his business again. His network included politicians, celebrities, academics and business leaders. Epstein was embroiled in controversy again in 2015 when Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Epstein's associate Gillian Maxwell. Giuffre alleged that she was involved in Epstein's sex trafficking ring as a child and that she was "served" by the rich and powerful. She also claimed that British Prince Andrew Mountbatten had abused her. This led to speculation about who was involved in Epstein's sex crimes and child sexual abuse.

He was arrested again in 2019. But he was found dead under suspicious circumstances in prison within a month of his arrest. Police claim he committed suicide. The case sparked calls in the US for the release of all documents related to him. In 2025, both houses of the US passed a resolution to release documents related to Epstein. After President Donald Trump signed the resolution, these files have gradually become public.

Jeffrey Edward Epstein, born in 1953 to a middle-class Jewish family in New York, was extremely ambitious. After enrolling at New York University after school, he did not complete his studies. Instead, he started teaching mathematics at a school in the city. There, Epstein met the father of one of his students, American billionaire Allen Greenberg.

Greenberg was the CEO of the famous investment firm 'Bear Stearns' at the time, so he gave Epstein a job. While there, Epstein opened a firm with his own investment in 1981 after understanding the thinking of the wealthy and how to make money. Epstein's firm had a strategy of serving only billionaires. He became a financial advisor to billionaires.

But who his clients were remained a secret. In the 1990s, he had several private planes, boats and many luxury vehicles. He also opened his own resort called ‘Little St. James’ in the US Virgin Islands. It is said that he started exploiting and trafficking minor girls from this resort. It is believed that he met Gillian Maxwell, the daughter of British media entrepreneur Robert Maxwell, at that time. Since Gillian was very shy, the two are believed to have started a more systematic business of ‘grooming’ girls and taking them to the resort and exploiting them in the name of massage.

Epstein used to organize big parties for his guests to strengthen social ties. For that, he would bring and take guests on his private jet, which was called the ‘Lolita Express’. They entertained guests in homes in New York, Palm Beach, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
