A Nepali-American police officer has died in the US state of Georgia. Pradeep Tamang, a 25-year-old Nepali-American police officer working for the Gwinnett Police Department, was killed in a shooting that occurred in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on Sunday morning local time.

Another officer on duty with Tamang was seriously injured. 

A police team including Tamang was deployed to East Park Place Boulevard to investigate a fraud complaint at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, 35-year-old Kevin Andrews opened fire indiscriminately on the team including Tamang who had arrived at the scene for investigation.

Tamang, who was seriously injured by Andrews's gunfire, died during treatment, according to the police department. Andrews, who fired at the police in return fire, was also injured. 

The department has confirmed that Tamang, 25, and Master Police Officer David M. Reed were both seriously injured and that Tamang died during treatment. Tamang entered the police service two years ago in July 2024. It is said that he graduated from the police academy in the 121st batch in May 2025 and started working in the field. Tamang was accompanied by injured police officer David M. Reed, who had worked for the department since 2015.
