Israel accuses Hezbollah of smuggling weapons through the region. Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah militants have been in talks to end a 2024 ceasefire, but Israel has repeatedly violated it. "Once again, Israel has shown that it is pursuing a policy of systematic attacks by carrying out airstrikes on Lebanese villages," Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Wednesday. He accused Israel of not being committed to the ceasefire. Israeli warplanes bombed several villages and settlements in southern Lebanon, Lebanon's national news agency reported. The attacks targeted the areas of Al-Kharayyeh, Al-Ansar, Qanarit, Kfar and Jarzou, the agency said. The Israeli military said on social media that it had attacked four checkpoints on the Syria-Lebanon border. Hezbollah is accused of smuggling weapons through the area. The Lebanese army issued a statement saying that civilian buildings and homes were destroyed in the Israeli attack. The army said that this move violated the ceasefire agreement and the sovereignty of Lebanon.
The army also said that this attack created obstacles in the national army's plan to disarm Hezbollah in accordance with the ceasefire agreement. Hezbollah has been trying to hand over its weapons, citing the Israeli attack.
