At least 14 people were killed and several others injured in a road accident caused by dense fog in Sargodha district of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Saturday.

According to rescue officials, the mini-truck went out of control due to extremely low visibility and fell off the road into a dry canal. Seven people died on the spot, while the seriously injured were immediately taken to nearby hospitals.

The death toll has reached 14 after seven more people died during treatment.

The driver is said to have used an alternative local route after the motorway was closed due to fog. Upon receiving information, a team of Rescue 1122 reached the spot and conducted rescue and relief operations.

It has been confirmed that women and children were also involved in the accident. Rescue officials said that all the deceased and injured are residents of Islamabad.
