At least six people were killed and 13 injured in a fire at a residential building in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Friday.

The fire broke out on the first floor of the six-storey residential building at 7:54 am local time, Xinhua reported, citing Mohammad Rafi Al Farooq, duty officer of the 'Fire Service' and 'Civil Defense Control Room'. 

The fire was brought under control at around 10 am with the active efforts of firefighters and three bodies were recovered. 

Dhaka police duty officer Nazmul Shakib said the death toll has reached six after three others died after the injured were taken to hospital for treatment. Apart from them, 10 of the 13 injured are being treated at different hospitals, the police official said, adding that the cause of the fire is still unknown.
