The US military has intervened in seven countries in the past 12 months. During Donald Trump's second term as president, US forces have attacked Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Nigeria and Venezuela.

President Donald Trump has dubbed his foreign intervention the 'Donro Document' after the US surprise operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Speaking to reporters at his resort in Miami, Florida, on January 3, Trump said the intervention in Venezuela was part of a revival of the Monroe Doctrine.

'The Monroe Doctrine is a great thing, but we have largely, truly, surpassed it.' Now it is called the Donro Document,' Trump said, adding his name, 'American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never be questioned again.'

In 1823, then-President James Monroe introduced the policy to oppose European intervention in the Western Hemisphere. Its original goal was to stop colonial expansion in the Americas, not to interfere with any sovereign country.

This policy was first put into practice in 1865 when the US government installed the then Mexican President Benito Juarez in power. For this, the French government deposed Emperor Maximilian.

At the end of the 19th century, the US helped Cuba gain independence from Spain. This conflict ended Spanish colonization in the Caribbean. However, during the term of President Theodore Roosevelt, the Monroe Doctrine was not limited to opposition to colonization.

It was used to spread US influence. In the process, the US took control of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.

During the Cold War, the influence of the Soviet Union spread around the world. This policy was used in an attempt to prevent communist ideology from spreading in Latin America and the Caribbean. The United States played a role in overthrowing Guatemalan President Jacobo Arbenz in 1954 after implementing a land reform program that nationalized the assets of American companies.

An attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro's government in Cuba in the 1960s failed. During the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, the United States used diplomatic efforts and pressure to prevent the Soviet Union from installing missiles in Cuba.

The United States continues to try to overthrow the communist regime in Cuba to this day. A military coup was staged in 1964 against the leftist government in Brazil. The United States played a role in the uprising that overthrew Chilean President Salvador Allende in 1973.

According to international relations professor Eduardo Gamaral, the Monroe Doctrine was intended to prevent non-American powers from getting involved in Latin America. 'In the 1800s, it meant preventing European colonization.' In the Cold War, it was to stop the Soviet Union from gaining influence.'

In 2013, US Secretary of State John Kerry, under Barack Obama, declared the end of the Monroe Doctrine. He advocated for the United States to develop relations with all countries in the Americas on an equal footing. The Obama administration's policy was to cooperate on security issues and not interfere in internal affairs.

When Trump was elected in his first term, he made America First his main slogan. The goal was to reduce involvement in foreign conflicts and prioritize domestic issues. Despite this, Trump clashed with Venezuela towards the end of his term.

The Biden administration continued the foreign policy of the Obama administration, so the US did not intervene in Latin America in a major way.

In Trump's second term, the US has been reducing its presence on global platforms. However, intervention in foreign countries has increased significantly. Since Trump came to power, the US has intervened militarily in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Nigeria, Yemen and Somalia. It has warned Cuba and Colombia.

Similarly, discussions are underway to annex Greenland to the US. NATO member states have already expressed objections to his remarks on Greenland. Trump, who has decided to impose customs duties on countries that trade with Iran, is also consulting on military intervention.
