A baby has died of suffocation in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, where the people are facing a humanitarian crisis due to the Israeli blockade.

Palestinians living in makeshift tents have been battered by strong winds and rain. Most of the shelters are made of thin plastic tents.

Israel has blocked the delivery of tents and other basic supplies to Gaza by various non-governmental and humanitarian organizations. This is a violation of international law.

Many homes in Palestine are uninhabitable due to the widespread Israeli military offensive. Palestinians are forced to pitch tents on the beach, according to international media Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera's Hind Khoudari, who is in Gaza City, said tents had been destroyed in many places. "There is no way to repair these tents because the families do not have the necessary materials," she said.

Last week, Amjad Shawa, director of the Palestinian NGO Network, said that about 1.5 million of Gaza's 2.2 million residents had lost their homes during the war between Israel and Hamas.

The United Nations says Israel has destroyed or damaged about 80 percent of the buildings in the territory in the more than two-year-old war.
