At least 11 people have been killed and seven others seriously injured after a bus and truck collided in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.
According to local police, the accident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday in the Carajinho area of federal highway BR 386.
The bus is said to belong to the local health department. It was transporting a patient for treatment when it collided with a truck.
Police said that rescue efforts were hampered by the sand loaded into the truck spreading inside the bus.
The seriously injured have been admitted to nearby local hospitals. Police are investigating the accident.
