When assessing the state of aviation, the United States also comes out on top among the busiest skies. With 19,482 airports, the United States is said to have the most airports in the world, with thousands of planes flying over its skies every day.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an average of 44,000 aircraft fly in the skies of the United States every day.

According to the FAA, there are 44,360 aircraft flying in the skies of the United States every day, including international, domestic, administrative, military, and small and large private aircraft. 14,000 air traffic controllers (ATCs) are working to control flights from 5,146 public and 14,336 private airports.

The list of the 10 busiest airports in the United States includes Houston–Jackson Atlanta (ATL), Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) Texas, O’Hare (ORD) Chicago, Denver (DEN) Colorado, Los Angeles (LAX) California, John F. Kennedy (JFK) New York, Orlando (MCO) Florida Miami (MIA) Florida, Arizona, Harry Reid (LAX) International Airport, California.

The FAA states that an average of 3 million passengers arrive and depart at the airport daily. “The total annual turnover of the aircraft and passengers flying in the skies of the United States, i.e. the entire aviation sector, is estimated to be $502 million,” the FAA states on its website. The FAA has also claimed that this economic transaction in the aviation sector is the highest in the world and that the United States accounts for a large share of the global aviation sector.

The FAA has been spending the income generated from the aviation sector in the same sector. Over a period of five years, $150 million has been spent on the development of the aviation sector itself. A plan has been put forward to invest $10 million each year in the Airport Terminals Program (ATP) and the Air Traffic Facilities (ATF). The FAA has announced plans to invest in Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG), Funding Relocation, and FAA Contact Towers (FCT) for the further development of the aviation sector.

American Airlines is among the largest airlines in the United States, the busiest airport is the Hudsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the state of Georgia, and the busiest domestic flight route is from New York to Los Angeles in the state of California. Similarly, the FAA has also announced a list of the 10 busiest airlines in the United States. In which American, Southwest, Delta, United, Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit, Allegiant and Hawaiian Airlines are included in the busiest private aviation in the United States.

According to a report released by OAG, an organization that studies the state of aviation around the world, there were 35,837,139 flights from December 30, 2024 to December 7, 2025. Of these, 14,481 aircraft flew commercial flights daily.
