Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stark warning about Russia's attempts to circumvent international sanctions, which he says pose a global security risk. He cited a report by Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service chief Oleh Ivashenko, who said Russia is trying to evade sanctions through energy companies and fictitious legal structures.
In a public message on social media, President Zelensky said that Ukraine would continue to monitor such activities and coordinate with partner countries to maintain pressure on Russia.
“Russia is using temporary owners and fictitious legal schemes to shield its energy companies from global sanctions. We are monitoring all these activities and will work with partners to prevent Russia from gathering resources for war,” he said.
Ivasenko’s report also covered the deployment of the Oresnik system by Russia on Belarusian soil, which President Zelensky said posed a serious threat to global security. He said that the aggressive expansion of such weapons poses a threat and that he has instructed allies to develop alternatives.
President Zelensky also expressed concern about the growing cooperation between Russia and China in the fields of intelligence and military production. Noting that cooperation between the two countries’ institutions is growing, especially in space-based intelligence, he claimed to have seen a connection between Chinese satellite images and Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
“Such activities are helping Russia prolong the war and undermine diplomatic efforts,” he said. He also made it clear that all these issues will be raised with partners and that Russia’s actions will be countered through diplomatic means.
