The Department of Justice (DOJ) has said that more than one million potential files related to Epstein, the accused child sex offender, have been found and that it could take several weeks to review and release them.

“We will release the documents as soon as possible,” the department said on Wednesday. The DOJ is currently in discussions with lawyers about the legal process to be followed in releasing the files, the DOJ said.  Earlier, the deadline for releasing all files related to Epstein was set for December 19, but not all files have been made public by that deadline. The Justice Department has also been criticized for releasing the files in installments. Some have accused the DOJ of doing this to protect President Donald Trump.

However, the department said that it worked with both the review of the files and the issue of providing legal protection to the victims in mind.

Who is Epstein?

Jeffrey Edward Epstein, born into a middle-class Jewish family in New York, opened a firm that only served billionaires.

He was also a financial advisor to billionaires. He bought an island in the Caribbean and opened the ‘Little St. James’ resort. He used to take billionaires, high-ranking officials and politicians there in a private jet called the 'Lolita Express'.

Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of British media entrepreneur Robert Maxwell, was his partner in this business. Epstein is accused of systematically luring girls to resorts and sexually exploiting them in the name of massage. The Epstein file is the file of the government investigation involving high-ranking officials, wealthy people and politicians who visited his resorts.

This file contains legal documents, flight records, meeting notes and sealed records related to Epstein. Epstein died suspiciously in prison in 2019.

The prison administration has called it a suicide. After his death, people's interest in the 'Epstein file' increased even more.

What has been found so far?

Despite intense pressure to open the ‘Epstein file’, the Trump administration tried to keep it secret for months.

President Trump signed the decision after the US House of Representatives passed a resolution to release the file on November 18 and the Senate on November 19. Since then, these files have been released in stages.

Various lies and falsehoods have also been revealed along with these files. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had claimed that he had never been to Epstein’s private jet or resort.

However, the new public file has revealed that Trump was on Epstein’s jet 8 times. The new finale also includes details of one time that Trump, Epstein and a 20-year-old woman traveled on the same private jet. The woman’s name is hidden in it.

The public files include the names or photos of famous people such as former US President Bill Clinton, British Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson.

Clinton has previously expressed regret for her relationship with Epstein. She has claimed that she was unaware of Epstein's crimes at the time. Britain's Prince Andrew has decided to leave the palace after a controversy over his relationship with Epstein.

But most celebrities have claimed that they did nothing wrong with Epstein.
