US recalls ambassadors from 30 countries, including Nepal

The US has recalled ambassadors from 30 countries, including Nepal. The US State Department has recalled ambassadors and senior staff from embassies in 30 countries, including Nepal.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced at a press conference at the State Department in Washington, DC, on Friday that the ambassadors of Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Uganda, Fiji, Laos, Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Vietnam, Armenia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Algeria, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Guatemala and Suriname have been recalled, including Nepal.

The Trump administration has recalled ambassadors appointed during the tenure of former President Joe Biden after one year in office and may also revoke other political appointments, according to the Associated Press (AP). Rubio said that although the ambassador's term is usually 3 to 4 years, the presidential administration can recall him at any time because he is a political appointee.

The Trump administration has not yet informed the State Department about the appointment of the new ambassador. The State Department has claimed that there will be no delay in the appointment of the ambassador and that the decision will be made by the president himself, since the ambassador is also the personal representative of the president.
