The US has seized an oil tanker from Venezuela, the second such seizure of a Venezuelan ship this month.

Just a few days ago, US President Donald Trump announced a blockade on Venezuela and said that action would be taken against ships going to and passing through there.

The seized ship is flying the Panamanian flag. Venezuela has called the incident a ‘theft and hijacking’.

US Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem posted a video on social media, informing that security forces, including the US Coast Guard, are deployed in the maritime area.

The ship was taken under control by a special strategic team in international waters, according to a news report published by the international media AP.

Noem said that the US took this step to reduce the financial support for drugs through the sale of illegal oil.

Venezuela has strongly condemned the incident. It has stated that it will file a complaint against it with the United Nations Security Council and other international bodies.
