Australia has announced a review of its police and national intelligence agencies, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, a week after the Bondi Beach attack.

Australian police have described the December 14 attack as 'inspired by Islamic State ideology'. The father and son opened fire that day, killing 16 people, including 15 civilians. One of the attackers, father Sajid Akram, died at the scene in a police operation. His son Naveed Akram is currently undergoing treatment. Police have filed 59 charges against him.  'The ISIS-inspired atrocities on Sunday have reaffirmed the rapidly changing security environment in our country,' Prime Minister Albanese said, adding: 'Our security agencies must be in a strong position to respond to any extremism.'

'The Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet will review the capabilities of federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies to keep Australians safe.'

After the incident, the government has already put forward a plan to tighten gun laws.
