A youth was lynched by a mob in Bhaluka, Mymensingh district of Bangladesh, on charges of religious insult. The incident took place in the Dubaliya Pada area of Bhaluka on Thursday night.
According to Ripan Mia, the duty officer of the Bhaluka police station, the youth named Deepu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob.
But the mob did not stop at the murder. After the murder, Deepu's body was tied to a tree and set on fire. According to the police, the youth had been working in a garment factory.
Mia told the BBC, 'On Thursday night at around 9 pm, a mob took control of Uttejati, beat him to death. Then they tied the body to a tree and set it on fire.'
The chief advisor to the Bangladesh government, Mohammad Yunus, has condemned the barbaric murder in Mymensingh. He said that there is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
After the fall of Hasina Sheikh, there have been systematic attacks against minorities in Bangladesh. The Yunus government is unable to control such extremists.
Bangladesh has been rocked by violent protests after the assassination of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Hadi was one of the leaders of the movement to oust Sheikh Hasina.
Hadi died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in Singapore. He was shot by an unknown assailant in Dhaka. Hadi was then taken to Singapore for treatment.
