The US has imposed sanctions on six more ships carrying Venezuelan oil, following the seizure of an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela on Thursday.

The tanker is set to arrive at a US port, White House spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt said. The US has also sanctioned some people with close ties to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The US has called the Venezuelan government an illegitimate power. However, Venezuela has called the incident an international robbery. The incident is expected to further escalate tensions between the US and Venezuela. The US has previously attacked boats passing through Venezuela, killing a large number of people. The US has attacked these boats on the grounds that they are carrying illegal drugs. The US has accused Venezuela of providing protection to drug traffickers and of cooperating with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in the past.
